About Dr. Mihalko

Dr. Jason Evan Mihalko earned a B.A. in psychology from Baldwin-Wallace College, a M.A. in counseling psychology from Goddard College, and an M.S. and Psy.D. in clinical psychology from Antioch University: New England. He also studied industrial/organizational psychology at the City University of New York. Prior to earning his doctoral degree, Dr. Mihalko spend over a decade as an activist, clinician, and administrator in settings including rape crisis centers, needle exchange programs, youth shelters, community mental health centers, and a free medical clinic working with gay men who were HIV positive. His doctoral level training was done at a rural psychology clinic as well as at the Stone Center Counseling Service at Wellesley College where he was one of only two male trainees accepted in the last ten years. His pre-doctoral training was at the Suffolk University Counseling Center and he subsequently held an appointment at Two Brattle Center as a postdoctoral fellow in the morning adolescent dialectal behavior therapy (DBT) program. After completing his postdoctoral training, Dr. Mihalko was a clinical affiliate and clinical supervisor at Two Brattle Center, interim staff psychologist at the Stone Center Counseling Service, and staff psychologist at Milestones, Inc., a therapeutic day school for children with Asberger Syndrome

Dr. Mihalko received advanced training in cognitive-behavioral, gestalt, relational/cultural, dialectal behavioral therapies, existential psychoanalysis, and clinical hypnosis. His clinical practice is grounded in mindfulness, informed by the relational/cultural model developed by the Stone Center, and integrates both cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic therapies. Dr. Mihalko works with a wide range of people who are coping with a variety of life issues. He has a particular affinity for working with issues related to anxiety and depression as well as self-injurious and addictive behaviors that limit the freedom of human desire. Dr. Mihalko also enjoys working with people who seek to enhance their creativity by exploring their psyche. Dr, Mihalko's clinical and research interests are focused on the intersection between the individual and their larger communities as well as how people who are traditionally from groups that are oppressed, forgotten, or hurt can heal and find liberation. He has spoken at numerous national conferences on these issues.

On a more personal note, Dr. Mihalko has an avid interest in stories, including those told through literature moves, and the spoken work; and through the metaphors of music, art, photography, and dance. He balances the seriousness of psychotherapy with a gentle and irreverent sense of humor.

Dr. Mihalko is a licensed psychologist and maintains a private practice with offices on Harvard Square in Cambridge Massachusetts and in Lowell Massachusetts. He works with adolescents and adults both individually and in groups.
